WEEK 3
January 28
New challenges and impressions
I have created delicious. Like Mahamud I thought it was something quisine-related. I can infer the meaning of the metaphor now. My delicious pages have yet to be bookmarked. Vow! what vocabulary!
I am reading the article by Lindsay Miller. I have made up my mind to concentrate on listening skills as our students rightly point out that they need to work more on that. I sympathise with them because they do not have many opportunities to interact with native speakers. However, my generation did not even have those scanty resources which are available now. So, they are luckier than we were.
I try not to let them be sorry for themselves and encourage to be more creative. Each group is expected to come up with some new web-page or video-audio material from the web. Besides, this helps to enrich our bank of resources....
P.S I have selected today's photo as, as I see it, there is a metaphor hidden behind it. Can you guess it???
Manana,
ReplyDeleteIt is true that in EFL classes, students do not have the opportunity to interact with native speakers of English, but with technology they can have the chance to listen to not only native speakers of English, but also different accents from people from different language backgrounds.
Interesting challenge that you are giving this wek. I tried to guess the meanig of the photo, but couldn't figure it out.

Hello Manana,
ReplyDeleteI like your spirit of encouraging your students.Never giving up is the ultimate goal. They need not be only creative but also critical thinkers.

Dear Manana,
ReplyDeleteTo me, it tells that the flowers are blooming. Metaphorically in the course our knowledge are developing. We are enriching our condition through the course.
Budding flower is blooming. Our dormant capacity getting favourable environment (Dear Sandra's and Deborah's supports) are awakening up.
I don't how much I have been able to guess.
Mahamud

Dear Cristian, Mary and Mahamud
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your comments on my blog.
Cristian, I do agree that students need more exposure to English speech and by this I mean
not only educated speach.
Mary,by the way,I was pleased to learn that your favourite expression is 'never give up'-like mine.
I also believe that students do need a lot of encouragement -teachers should take into account their learning styles as often as possible.
Mahamud, you were right! The metaphor coded in the photo is closely connected with the Georgian culture where the bee is considered to be always busy and industrious (like the English expression 'busy as the bee'). So, I thought that we (the group) were like busy bees exploring and taking as much as we can from the course (the flower).
