WEEK 4

Mary called her blog EYE OPENER which is clever as this course certainly acts as one. While reading the lesson plan of Tennessee university, I realised that it would be easier to implement technology in the process of learning/teaching if I included it in the lesson plan as one of the components of a lesson/lecture.
Nina mentioned resistance of the teachers to technology. I believe this is frustrating but natural. Actually, by suggesting or demanding something new and challenging makes a lot of (tired or bored) teachers angry as it means hard work and consequently is upsetting their routine. Interestingly enough, I did not feel hostility when I organised free IT lessons for the staff.

  1. Hi Manana,

Those tired or bored teachers as you depict them do not imagine how their teaching can be facilitated with technology ,and here I'm not talking about web-based technologies, but technologies like word-processors or powerpoint.
when I hear some of my colleagues dictating during lectures or giving students hand-written handouts it drives me crazy. If I "dare" make any comment they have only one response:"you do not know better than us,you don't even have a master degree!"But it doesn't really bother me because I have the love of my students.
I'm happy that you didn't feel any hostility from your colleagues.I hope they tried to implement some of the things they learned during your IT lessons for the staff.

  2. Dear Manana and Hassina
Resistance to technology. Resistance to innovation. Most people take time to adhere to something new. Nobody wants to be a rabbit in a laboratory. People usualy wait for product before they adhere to something new. That's the problem.

Don't give names to these people. They are reasonable and they are in their rights. Now, those who have used technology must let them know the benefits they got from it, and mostly the enhanced results of the students.

Please don't blame the resistant teachers. Take time to share with them the knowledge and the results you are acquiring here and perhaps they will become technology addicted.

Ihaven't come to this point, but I am discovering Teaching Skills Through the Interactive Net.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

    Courage and patience

    Roland
